2004-11-02 - 6:14 p.m. I'm sitting at work with nothing better than this to do, so I thought I might take a minute to explain this new job. :) I work at a Cingular Wireless store at the corner of Main and Transit: a busy intersection in a ritzy suburb of Buffalo. I am a sales support rep which is a fancy name for saying that I sit at a desk in front of a computer all day and listen to people bitch about their cell phone bills, damaged phones, etc... I am in the busines of listening to angry and distraught people and doing my best to appease and calm them. It's not really as bad as it sounds as long as I stay busy, but the dead times like this are when I just sit miserably and bemoan my headache or any other ailment I may have out of pure boredom. Karen, the other SSR sits at the same desk as me--across from me. She's teeny-tiny but has a loud talking voice and an abrupt sense of humor. I can't decide if I like her or not. She'd be perfect for a reality show because she is just that dramatic, but the boy drama and the sorority drama is not exactly the type of thing that I am drawn to. Meagan and Kate are the other girls I work with. Kate is pretty and blonde and buxom. She's married and has kids, but still acts young. Meg is dark and pretty--she looks kinda Spanish. She talks a lot and is bubbly and outgoing. I like them, but I feel like an outsider sometimes because they are good friends and have known eachother for so long. They are all put together and drive nice cars, have their hair done regularly, their makeup is always perfect, and then there is me who doesn't really give a damn about how I look most of the time and drives the biggest piece of crap ever. Nate and Doug are the other sales reps, Brad is the manager, and Jeff is the assistant manager. Nate is quiet and has a cute sheepish smile; Doug is loud and frank--obnoxious even at times--with a sarcastic sense of humor, but he's still cool. Brad follows the books to the letter. I'm really scared he will see my tongue ring and make me take it out. But he has his good points too: he likes South Park, and he seems to be a decent guy. Jeff is in his late twenties, swarthy, with a boyish face and a laid back additude. I like everyone. :) I think I am pretty much settled in now. I still don't know how to solve all of the customers' problems, but I am becoming more competent as each day passes. I like the fact that I have my own desk, business cars, and nametag, and I like the uniform even though it gets really boring wearing the same five shirts all the time. Mom stopped in and dropped off aa bubble tea for me. I love my mom; sometimes I really, really miss her. Everyone stared and thought it was the most interesting thing to see my mom after the crazy stories they have heard about my backround. If you haven't already: GO VOTE AND VOTE KERRY! :) So there, I've wasted a nice little chunk of time writing this. One hour until closing time and then I'm off to the polls!
